DEUCE combines an Alexa-based smart speaker with a cordless phone in one device. Positioned on the compact base, DEUCE serves as a smart speaker thanks to integrated voice control, which can be used to play music or steer the smart home. To make private phone calls, the handset is removed from the base and brought to the ear, whereby the loudspeaker function is automatically deactivated. The jury praised the design, which communicates the fusion of smart speaker and telephone in an intuitively understandable way, and highlighted the “seamless transition from loudspeaker to private mode”.
