Podcasts, YouTube videos, live streaming – never before have so many people produced so much sound and video content as today. Added to this are all those who communicate remotely while working or gaming and thus attach importance to interference-free audio capture – the demand for good microphones is immense. The USB microphones of the CHERRY UM MICROPHONE SERIES were designed specifically for all these usage scenarios. The aim was to combine high sound quality with an uncomplicated and intuitive-to-use microphone solution, enabling users to concentrate fully on their content. This mic series includes three models for beginners and professionals, the CHERRY UM 3.0, the CHERRY UM 6.0 ADVANCED and the CHERRY UM 9.0 PRO RGB, which differ functionally mainly in terms of directional characteristics and sampling rate, and showcase some distinctive design features, such as an integrated LED lighting on the 9.0 PRO RGB. All three models are unified by the clear cylindrical basic shape of the metal microphone body. A circumferential ring divides the body into base and grille and integrates the most important control elements, including a volume control reminiscent of a mouse wheel. Moreover, there is a central mute button located at the top of the microphone for instantly muting the unit with just one touch. The most distinctive design element, found on both the ADVANCED and PRO RGB versions, is the shock mount, a microphone spider that protects the recording from sound distortion caused by vibration, as it completely decouples the microphone from the three-legged metal stand with the help of bright red fabric-covered rubber bands. “In a clever way, the rubber bands are assigned a dual function here,” said the jury. “On the one hand, they are an elementary functional component of the suspension. On the other, their eye-catching colouring boldly draws attention to the fascinating construction through which the microphone seems to float.” This detail alone lends the microphone design a strong emotional component and a high recognition value, the jury praised. It is the use of high-quality materials and precise workmanship, they concluded, that make the devices communicate high quality standards, robustness and reliability.
