Visions of Blackness was my Senior Art Show during my time at Minot State University. The show took place in the Library Gallery and was up from December 12-31 during 2007.Artist StatementWhat is "blackness"? What is "acting black"? What is "sounding black"? Since being brought to America, blacks have been a misrepresented people. For some reason it's always been popular to try to define and categorize black people. Some people believe that in order to be black you have to be a certain way, act a certain way, or talk a certain way. Like black people are all the same. The purpose of Visions of Blackness is to question this narrow view and the negative light that black people have been shown in. I am showing different ideas that I have and my feelings on different issues that relate to black people. It is also celebrating different black figures that are important to me.Artistically, my process starts with an idea or issue and figuring out the best way to get that idea across. For Vision
